"I am applying to be an English, Spanish, and math tutor and I have a lot of expertise from both learning and teaching these subjects. Currently, I am a sophomore attending Spelman College majoring in Political Science and minoring in Spanish and Economics with a 3.93 GPA as of the end of the fall semester of 2025. As for my learning experience in these fields specifically, I have taken eight years of Spanish in school, taken two AP level English courses in high school and took an English course last year (receiving an A in all these courses), and taken algebra, algebra 2, pre-calculus, as well as college level math. In terms of teaching experience, I have tutored Spanish on-and-off since middle school and was a Spelman College Spanish tutor during my Spring 2025 semester, I have also TA'd for the AP Language and Composition English during high school and proofread and provided feedback for my peers, finally I was able to teach students math concepts for Imagine Learning (LearnZillion) during high school.

When it comes to tutoring and teaching students, I use different approaches to help them understand the concepts depending on the subjects. For Spanish, I generally offer a lecture-practice format, in which I deliver a short "lecture" explaining the concept then follow up with practice tests, short stories, and writing/speaking/listening practice. For English, I generally ask questions about what a student feels as though they are struggling with as a base then read for three key parts: claims, evidence, analysis before providing feedback on grammar and flow. To strengthen these areas I invite students to answer questions such as "what do you believe the key theme is or the author's goal is?" and "how specifically does "x piece of evidence" demonstrate "x claim". For math, I generally look at past performance to identify weaknesses and work on explaining concepts thoroughly before practice." less...
