"My goal: I am a credentialed English teacher with a decade of teaching experience and a master's of teaching from Stanford. I am to use my experience to empower students to craft compelling personal statements that represent their authentic voice and story. I am committed to guiding students through every step of the writing process, fostering their confidence and creativity. I strive to make any application process a positive and successful journey for each of my students.
About me: I studied English at Middlebury College and graduated magna cum laude with an honors thesis, also serving as captain of the women's soccer team. I earned my master's in teaching from Stanford in 2014, and have taught high school English for 10 years, serving as department lead for 5 years. I have experience teaching 9th-12th grade English at all levels (co-taught, gen-ed, honors, AP), and I specialize in helping students craft clear, authentic, compelling personal statements, application support, writing skills, and reading comprehension. I am currently based in the Bay Area and work as a full-time tutor, working with students both in-person and virtually on a range of applications, from independent high schools and boarding schools, to college and university applications, to medical school admissions.
My approach:
First, I believe in personalized guidance: each student's journey is unique, so I tailor my approach to fit individual needs. Drawing on 10 years of teaching experience, I leverage my expert insight to guide students from brainstorming and outlining to drafting and polishing, Second, I prioritize constructive feedback: I provide detailed, actionable feedback on each draft, on both content and form, to ensure student writing is polished, coherent, and impactful. Lastly, I offer holistic support throughout the application process: this can include personal statements, state-specific prompts, supplemental essays, activity/extracurricular lists, interview prep, and deadline management." less...
