"I am a current Stanford University graduate student with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology who is currently pursuing a M.S./Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering. I have worked as a tutor for many years starting during my undergraduate degree and have lots of experience both learning and teaching STEM at a high level as a teaching assistant and private tutor. My primary focus as a tutor is to make difficult STEM topics approachable for students and to connect their schoolwork to real-world problem-solving.

Over the past several years, I have worked as a private tutor to other college students while also serving as a Teaching Assistant at Caltech in several STEM courses including Biology, Mechanical Engineering, and Design. My approach to tutoring focuses on exposing students to different types of practice problems in their coursework after teaching them some of the fundamental problem-solving techniques that are used across different STEM fields. This includes drawing pictures, writing down key information, and consulting relevant equations or equation sheets. This allows the student to develop general problem-solving skills that they can use when tackling unfamiliar material while also giving them the opportunity to practice the material they are currently learning. My philosophy when it comes to tutoring STEM is that solving practice problems is the best way to both learn the material and assess where extra studying/review might be most helpful." less...
