"Hi! My name is Caleb. I'm a Ph.D. student in computational biology at Virginia Tech, and I previously published undergraduate research at Southeastern Louisiana University. My work involves developing interpretable deep-learning methods for evolutionary biology, and I heavily rely on R and Python for scientific analysis.
As far as R goes, I've developed and contributed to several R packages, including 'Revticulate' (a package for interfacing with the Bayesian phylogenetics program 'RevBayes') and RPhenoscate (a package for incorporating ontological knowledge with evolutionary data). I'm very familiar with the tidyverse, and I enjoy helping students learn to clean data with dplyr and to make beautiful visualizations with ggplot2.
Concerning Python, I primarily work with PyTorch, and I'm very familiar with Python's data science suite including Pandas, Matplotlib, Numpy, scikit-learn, and others. I'm a contributor to SISRS, a Python-based bioinformatics pipeline for extracting phylogenetically informative regions from whole-genome sequences, and I enjoy helping out with problems in scientific and statistical domains.
Many of my students want help with programming for statistics, which is exactly my forte. I often help with preprocessing, visualization, and just generally helping people understand what the code is actually doing.
Whatever you're seeking help with, my #1 tutoring philosophy is to be patient. Statistics is hard, programming is hard, and learning, in general, is hard. There is always a learning process, and I'm happy to help in any way that I can. Sessions can be as long or short as you need, and I have no problem rescheduling if you are unable to meet at a discussed time.
If you're interested in my help, feel free to contact me, and I promise I'll get back to you as soon as possible." less...
