"I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Michigan pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience on a pre–Physician Assistant track. My academic background includes extensive coursework in the biological and chemical sciences, including the full introductory biology sequence (Bio 171, 172, and 173), upper-level molecular and cellular biology (MCDB 310), advanced human anatomy (Anatomy 403), and multiple chemistry courses including Chem 130, 210, and 211. These courses required a strong foundation in conceptual understanding, application-based learning, and problem solving, which allows me to explain complex scientific topics clearly to others.
My teaching experience comes from peer-based and small-group tutoring within academic and pre-professional settings. I have regularly helped friends, classmates, and members of my pre-professional pre-health fraternity understand material from biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology courses. This support typically took place in one-on-one or small-group settings and involved reviewing lecture material, walking through practice problems, clarifying difficult concepts, and preparing for exams. Through this experience, I learned how to adapt explanations based on individual learning styles and prior knowledge, particularly for students navigating rigorous pre-health coursework.
Working with peers has shown me the importance of patience, clear communication, and breaking down dense material into manageable pieces. I focus on strengthening foundational understanding rather than memorization, using active recall, concept mapping, and real-world clinical examples when appropriate. While my teaching experience has been informal, it has been consistent throughout my undergraduate career and has prepared me well to tutor students effectively in the sciences." less...
