"Hello! I'm Brendan and I have experience teaching/tutoring in a variety of subjects and age ranges. I just received a BS in electrical engineering from UCLA and will be undertaking an MS in embedded systems at UCR so any and all related topics fall under my expertise. During my time in undergraduate, I taught a project course for fellow undergraduates on electrocardiogram design; students with little to no background learned: circuit theory, microcontroller programming and use, breadboard circuit skills, soldering, and data processing skills (Matlab/Python). The class was small with roughly 20 students per quarter; my work involved developing course material, delivering lectures, providing out of class work, and providing individual office hours outside of class to monitor student progress. It was structured into two phases: (1) foundational knowledge with a heavy focus on teaching new content and giving students hands on opportunities to learn and (2) project work where my instruction is specifically targeted to each student's extension project goal. This was my latest teaching experience and by far one of my most rewarding.
I began tutoring in high school, using personal connections to help tutor younger students in math (specifically algebra and calculus). This experience, alongside my time as a nationally ranked debater, gave me an opportunity to teach at a few different online academies (2019-2022). I taught students ranging from elementary level (3rd grade) to the high school level different styles of debate and argument formation. These courses were developed by me and were often small with 5-10 students per session. Alongside my in-class teaching, I would provide parents individualized feedback for their children on how they were doing in class. I think tutoring younger students requires a three-way conversation between teacher, student, and parent, so my work always involves or at least keeps parents updated.
I can teach anything from college level math to elementary speech skills." less...
