"Hello potential students! My name is Olivia Ross, and I would love to tutor you in science! I have a Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry and a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Science.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a Forensic Scientist with the Washington State Patrol in Vancouver Washington. My specialty was in drug chemistry where I analyzed unknown materials for the presence of controlled substances.
I realized that my true passion was in sharing a love of science with students, which is why I decided to go back to school to become a teacher. I completed my student teaching in the fall of 2023 at Union High School where I worked with regular and AP chemistry classes. I then went on to work as a high school science teacher at a private school where I personalized instruction and designed a chemistry curriculum aligned with Next Generation Science Standards. My instructional approach integrates technology, inquiry-based activities, and interdisciplinary collaboration to personalize learning and foster student success.
One of my strengths as a teacher is my ability to differentiate instruction and explain abstract STEM topics in relatable ways. For example, when teaching electron shielding in chemistry, I used a Star Wars analogy comparing electron shielding to closing blast doors around a nucleus—making the content memorable and relevant to students.
I would be thrilled to discuss your goals for this school year to see if I would be the right fit as a tutor for you. Thank you for your consideration!" less...
