"If you are a student in middle school to undergrad, I will be able to help you achieve maximal academic performance and obtain concrete grasps on even the most difficult topics.
I recently graduated with departmental honors and Dean's List from Columbia University with a major in Chemistry and Math. Throughout college I was a tutor and Teaching Assistant for organic chemistry courses. I am an active organic chemistry researcher and will be beginning a PhD in Chemistry next fall. Before college, I began tutoring in sixth grade and have continued since, teaching different courses via freelance work and through requests from teachers. More information about me is that I have won math competitions since grade school, placed 98th percentile for my SAT, and took 15 AP courses. My academic experiences since elementary school have allowed me to be familiar with a vast breadth of classes, content, and topics. While my specialty is science and math, I have performed very well in humanities and non-STEM topics and I am able to help. From chemistry to history, from SAT to college essays, my recent experiences as a high schooler, college applicant, and undergrad will enable me to help you excel.
My tutoring philosophy comprises two key axioms: balancing theory with practice and individualized learning methods. Balancing theory and practice enables students to have firm understandings on a theoretical level to utilize when practicing questions. Too much theory, students can't apply it properly. Too much practice, students struggle solving new problems. Secondly, I know the "best" explanations and solving methods differ for each student, so I aim to find the strategies that are optimal for each student. A typical lesson plan includes three phases: Before: Send topics, relevant assignments, textbooks, and questions for me to review and prepare necessary material. During: Content review, lectures, practice problems, reviews, and assignment assistance After: Implement lessons and help during homework and exams." less...
