"I have 8+ years of experience tutoring undergraduate coursework including organic chemistry biology and biochemistry. I have also successfully tutored students preparing for the MCAT, on which I scored in the 93rd percentile overall, and USMLE Step 2, on which I scored a 261. More so than teaching the bare requirements necessary to secure a desired grade, I aim to teach my students to 'think like a scientist'--something I myself strive to do every day as an MD PhD candidate pursuing my graduate training in the Neurosciences. I find that my comprehensive yet intimate approach to the subject matter leaves my students feeling confident and with an interest in that particular subject.
As a surgeon-scientist in training, I emphasize the importance of developing basic skills in understanding scientific literature and applying concepts in the natural sciences. These skill have enabled me to publish multiple peer-reviewed studies and I am continually developing them through my training as a medical and graduate student. These abilities are critical to students' success whether they are entering medicine, one of the allied health professions or aspire to be scientists. I am enthused by the opportunity to share this knowledge with eager students who want to better understand these subjects. Prior to matriculating into medical school, I spent 18 months as an undergraduate in a chemistry lab at New York University under the tutelage of Alexej Jerschow. In addition, I completed two years of clinical research at the Montefiore Medical Center (Bronx,NY) Department of Anesthesiology. Being involved in original, independent research has reinforced my knowledge and understanding of chemical, biological and biochemical principles. Accordingly, I am confident that I can work effectively with committed students to assist them in their studies, exam preparation, and intellectual pursuits." less...
