"My name is Michael and I hold a B.S degree in Mathematics and completed 28 hours of graduate work in Mathematics/Statistics at Eastern Michigan University. I am currently certified to teach all levels of middle and high school mathematics, physics, and economics. Prior to earning my B.S degree, my previous major was Engineering. The combination of my college course work left me with a major in mathematics, Statistics and Physics, and a minor in Chemistry and Economics. I have had additional coursework in Accounting.
I am married with 4 boys in the Loveland Schools, coach and referee soccer. This experience allows me to gain good rapport with the students I tutor and allows the lessons to be efficient since the students tend to be relaxed and ready to start.
I have had one year of experience teaching mathematics to high school students ranging from Basic Math to Pre-Calculus. I am certified to teach Mathematics, Physics and Economics in the state of Ohio. Additionally, while attending junior college, I worked as a tutor in the math lab. I also tutored my two oldest children when they completed their Geometry class in ninth grade in order to be accepted in the post-secondary option for high school students. In order for them to begin taking classes at college in 10th grade, they had to pass a math placement test at the level of College Algebra or higher. They tested just below the Calculus level after about 4 weeks of tutoring due primarily to my ability to determine which topics are most relevant. Additionally, working as an Actuary, I have demonstrated my ability to study in an efficient manner by passing a large number of Actuarial exams at a 90% passing rate when the average passing rate for actuarial exams is approximately 40%. I feel it's more important to teach a student to study properly than to just memorize facts to be forgotten after a test. This allows the student to recall more information when a midterm or final exam is given." less...
