"I began tutoring and mentoring during my time at Angelo Rodriguez High School, where I served as both a Link Leader and English Tutor through the Link Crew Program. As a Link Leader from 2020 to 2022, I guided incoming freshmen through their first year by planning fun activities, leading small group lessons, and offering both academic and emotional support. I also organized Zoom check-ins and monthly sessions that helped students set goals, build study habits, and feel connected to their school community. In my role as an English Tutor during the same time in this program, I created lesson plans tailored to different learning styles, collaborated with other tutors to improve our teaching methods, and provided individualized help in reading and writing. These experiences taught me patience, creativity, and how to make learning engaging for students of all ages.
Now, as a current student at the University of California, Santa Cruz, I’ve continued to develop my communication and leadership skills through various organizations and volunteer work. As the Public Relations Officer for the Women of Science Society (WSS), I design promotional materials, manage messaging, and help foster an inclusive community for women in STEM. I also volunteered at Satellite Healthcare, where I dedicated over 70 hours supporting dialysis patients and creating a welcoming environment. These experiences strengthened my empathy, professionalism, and ability to connect with people from different backgrounds.
Overall, my journey as both a mentor and college student has shaped me into a tutor who values empathy, structure, and fun in the learning process. I enjoy meeting students where they are, encouraging curiosity, and building confidence whether they’re in elementary school or preparing for college!" less...
