"Hi there! I’m Josh, and I’ve been a classroom teacher for over 20 years. While most of my experience has been in full-classroom settings, I’ve recently decided to shift my focus toward working one-on-one or in small group environments, where I can really zero in on individual student needs and help them grow with personalized support.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in middle and high school math, a second Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, and a Master’s degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction with a STEAM focus. I’m certified to teach grades 5 to 12 math and 9 to 12 physics, and I’ve taught everything from 5th grade math to AP Physics. That said, my favorite area, and the one I specialize in, is late middle school/early high school math (primarily Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry). These are the grades where students shift from concrete to abstract thinking, and I love helping them gain confidence as they take on new challenges.
I structure one-on-one and tutoring sessions by introducing or re-introducing key vocabulary and concepts first, then by providing guided examples and independent practice. I’m a big believer in “there’s more than one way to solve a problem,” and I always work to find the approach that makes the most sense to each student.
I respond quickly to questions and scheduling requests, and I’m always happy to adjust my approach to match a student’s learning style. Reach out with any questions or to schedule a tutoring session!" less...
