"I'm Dalen. My regular everyday job is being a professional historian at a world class research institution but I also tutor students on the side! I have a PhD in Anthropology and History from the University of Michigan, a Masters from Goucher College, and a BS from Northland College. I spend my days interacting and engaging with college students but have also assisted high school and adult learners in my career. I have assisted students both in the classroom setting and one on one in tutoring for college writing, basic social sciences and history refreshers, and adult education. I still love learning alongside students (a sign of a true "nerd") and strive to empower others to also learn and grow their knowledge base. I expect that students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences and enjoy teaching and learning from others based on their own life experiences. I believe that all individuals can learn and strive to make my teaching accessible and fun.

I have prepared students for the rigors of college writing through essay preparation, editing, and reflection and have taught courses on world history, American history, social studies, and geography. I have held multiple diverse jobs throughout my life and try to bring all my experience to bear on my tutoring, research, and writing. I'm excited to develop a tutoring plan for my students and seek to improve upon the areas that they see as lacking.
