"My name is Kea, and I am a full time Research Assistant at Kaiser Permanente. I graduated from the University of Hawaii at Manoa studying Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. Some of my favorite memories at UHM were studying Chinese and researching the targeting specificity of retrotransposons of maize. Outside of work and school, I like to play volleyball and read.

During college, I was a tutor for student athletes for 2 years in Organic Chemistry and 1 year in Biochemistry. As a student athlete in high school myself, I understood how difficult it was to juggle school, homework, your sport, and other extra curriculars.

When taking difficult classes, such as organic chemistry, I took matters into my own hands and studied almost every day, whether it was reviewing my notes for 10 minutes or doing practice problems from the textbook. I cultivated a work ethic that helps my students succeed, and I want that same thing for you.

As a Chinese major, I was fortunate enough not only to study at the university, but also attend two summer immersion programs in China, studying Chinese at a high level. In learning a different language and culture, I was beginning to understand how to better connect with people, opening my mind to their beliefs and principles. This was a valuable lesson, because it shifted my paradigm and allowed me to better understood people from all walks of life, giving me the tools to be a mindful and versatile tutor.
