"Some quick background info: I'm a theoretical physicist, specializing in string theory and black holes. "Some quick background info: I'm a theoretical physicist, specializing in string theory and black holes. I am currently taking a break from academia to ostensibly write a book, which is easier said than done (shocking, right?). I was most recently a research fellow at Harvard (and MIT and then Peking University in Beijing before that). I have tutored on the side for over 10 years and continue to do so because unfinished books don't pay and also, of course, because I love physics and math and teaching students to understand and appreciate how observed esoteric complexity develops naturally from an elegant simplicity underlying both subjects gives me great satisfaction (and ideally at least marginal satisfaction to my students too).

Although self-indulgently reflecting on what I get out of teaching is nice for me, most prospective students probably just want to know how I can help them. Well, my pedagogical focus is always on intuitive understanding, not rote memorization. This can sometimes feel frustrating to a student but always pays off in the end. With that being said, flexibility is key as no two students learn the same way nor have the same goals for a class. Even though my career is in abstract theoretical physics, I have extensive experience with teaching the AP curriculum as well the IB. I genuinely can't think of a student of mine who did not score a 5 on the AP exam (in both physics and calculus). In college, I also spent a couple summers developing SAT curricula for an independent educational foundation, so I can surely help with standardized test preparation.

In addition to pretty much any physics or math course at any level, I can also tutor philosophy and linguistics, where my love for dialectical analysis and language manifests itself quite clearly. I also have a passion for billiards, but I doubt too many people here are seeking tutoring in that.

That's pretty much it for me. Of course, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I look forward to hearing from you." less...
