"If one is looking to do the method of thirty minute lessons, straight from a method book, I am happy to do that. Many of the beginner method books and beyond are quite competent and one will experience growth and development by simply following the methods and time tables of the book. In addition, many early method books have play along discs included, making working in this manner easy to facilitate. These same procedures can apply to working on music from school, or music for an upcoming audition, test, etc. In addition to teaching this way, I would like to offer you alternate learning routes. For starters, those students that wish to improve their range and volume after Middle School Age (although I would not be adverse to starting maybe as early as a 7th grader on this kind of vocation) I would advise to work out of a book that I go back to from time to time titled "Invincible Chops" by Patrick Hession, a former lead trumpeter for the late Maynard Ferguson. If one wishes to work in this manner, I am more than happy to assist in learning this approach to trumpet playing as well. You will see instant results, but one has to stay with the discipline with a certain amount of consistency, or else improvements will fade rapidly. Finally, I enjoy working on soloing, if a student wants to take up transcribing either solos or difficult horn lines, I enjoy this kind of musical detective work. For the High School, College or life long learner who wants to assimilate great jazz trumpet solos, I have a considerable amount of experience in this field. Transcriptions can also go hand in hand with learning specific songs. For instance, learning Miles Davis' solo on "Milestones" might help you the next time you are asked to solo over it. Or maybe you enjoy listening to Chris Botti, and want to be able to imitate his playing for your own enjoyment. Or you want to learn horn lines from groups like The Ohio Players and Blood, Sweat and Tears, just as an example.

I have been a classroom teacher of 20 years, I have also done so" less...
