"I am a triple certified 4-8th middle school math and k-12 special education and ESOL teacher. I am currently teaching 7th grade general education. I am proficient with iReady and Zearn. I serve a diverse population of students including a heavy population of English Language Learners. I have a BA in psychology from Hampton University as well as an MS. Every student is different which means every student learns differently which means every student should have differentiated and individualized instruction. Some students need to see the material taught directly, some students need to build understanding by prior knowledge, some students like to see what is happening using models and manipulatives. Phrases I hear most frequently from students about math is "math isn't my thing." or "I'm just not good at math". If you have ever said anything like this, that just means that you haven't developed a strong foundation in mathematics.
