"I graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology. I also have a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences from UCF. I worked for six years training/mentoring students in laboratory settings at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science campus, and also at UCF. I also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Immunology Lab at UCF. Currently, I am a math and science tutor and I am also a General Biology professor at the college level.
During my undergrad and graduate school, I noticed that the best professors where the ones that taught by using examples. Examples make what you are learning more relatable, easier to remember and more enjoyable to learn. I like explaining the material using examples and analogies that help the student. I understand it is important to explain science and math from the perspective of the student, remembering the things that were difficult to understand when I learned the material for the first time.
As an educator and facilitator, I am a believer that everyone learns in diverse ways, and everyone can learn any subject if taught the right way. Therefore, I am willing to use different teaching approaches, until the students and I can find what works better for each one of them. I also believe that having the appropriate tools to learn specific subjects is key to the learning process.
I am open to any suggestion the student may have. I have no problems with repeating and explaining the material with different approaches until the student feels confident that he/she understands the material. In case the student asks any questions that I am not able to answer during the tutoring sessions, I am able to look for resources to help answer the questions as soon as possible." less...
