"Hi, I’m Mallorie! I recently graduated from Elon University, Summa Cum Laude: I was in the Honors Program and I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre and a minor in Mathematics. I recently moved to New York to pursue a career in the performing arts, but I maintain a deep love for academics, and found a passion (and subsequent parallel career) in tutoring due to the ability to not only foster a deep understanding of but a genuine love and appreciation for the subjects I tutor.

I have more than 5 years of experience tutoring, having been a peer tutor since High School. I specialize in Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB/BC, as well as essay/research paper writing and playwriting. As a Math tutor, I adopt a ground-up approach wherein students are encouraged to understand exactly how and why certain equations and methods work so they can apply their understanding to a broader range of problems rather than relying on rote memorization. As we work through classwork or homework together, I always ensure that we are drawing connections between the specific problem at hand and the concept in general/its applications in the real world. I am also up to date on CollegeBoard AP Calculus AB/BC Exam requirements, so that while learning and mastering these topics, we can also practice the exact notation that will be needed to excel on the increasingly nit-picky AP Exam. As a writing tutor, I draw on my experience writing an undergraduate research thesis to edit and review a student’s work and discuss strategies for improving clarity, form, and content. I am also a playwright, and happy to work on creative projects as well as essays/papers!
