"Hello! My name is Ori and I’m a tutor based in Boston, MA. I hold degrees in music composition and computer science from Northwestern University, and specialize in music theory, programming, and math.

My approach to tutoring and mentoring has always been an individual one. I’ll first gauge the student’s experience level, and discuss their immediate/long-term goals for that subject. Then, I craft my lessons accordingly, figuring out how I can best help the student. My goal is to provide an encouraging and safe space, where the student feels comfortable asking any questions (no matter how many times)! Concepts can be difficult to grasp, and I believe the best teaching is paired with enthusiasm and patience.

As a student, I was the music director of an a cappella choir for 2 years, where in addition to leading rehearsals, I led workshops in song arrangement and ear training. These workshops took place in group settings, but I also had experience teaching one-on-one when helping other choir members create their own arrangements. As both a composer and pianist, I have experience playing and tutoring in a wide variety of genres and styles including classical, jazz, pop, rock, electronic, and liturgical music.

In addition to music, I also have experience tutoring in other academic subjects like programming and math. Throughout my 4 years at college, I worked as a computer science peer mentor for several introductory programming classes. I gained experience teaching in both group settings, such as programming tutorial sessions, and one-on-one settings, where students came to my office hours for extra help. For the past 5 years, I’ve also been mentoring middle and high school students in various math subjects including algebra, geometry, and statistics.
