"Hello, I'm Sydney! I graduated from Utah Valley University in 2020 with a Bachelor's Degree in Statistics and Utah State University in 2022 with a Master's Degree in Statistics. From 2017-2020, I was a statistics tutor through my university and I was a recitation leader for an entry-level college statistics course (STAT 1040/1045) from 2020-2022 as a graduate student. I currently work as a data scientist, but I also love continuing to tutor people outside my work hours.

My goal is to not only help students with your statistics course but also to teach them some effective learning habits along the way. When tutoring, I will never give the answer to a problem. Rather, I will help break to down each component of a problem and give a step-by-step guide on how to arrive at a solution. Between each step, I will ask the student leading questions to ensure they understand what the problem is asking. Within the guidelines set by the instructor, I can also show methods I would use to problem-solve if I were taking the same course. After going through a statistical exercise, I may ask the student to explain why the steps taken were necessary or have them complete a similar problem to make sure they can be successful on their own. Of course, I am always willing to adjust my approach depending on the needs of the student.

I value academic integrity. Thus, I may ask for proof indicating that a student is allowed to receive help for a specific assignment or the exact source of a problem needing completion. I will also verify that tools used for learning such as a calculator, app, or website are allowed by the instructor.
