"I attended Boston College from 2016 to 2020, where I majored in Biology and developed a strong foundation in analytical thinking and problem solving. Throughout my undergraduate years, I spent multiple summers tutoring ACT and SAT preparation as well as K–12 mathematics. Most of the students I worked with were middle and high school learners who struggled with standardized testing, often due to gaps in foundational concepts or ineffective test-taking habits. My tutoring experience spans both group instruction and one-on-one volunteer settings, allowing me to adapt my approach to different learning styles and levels of need.
My teaching philosophy centers on building understanding rather than short-term memorization. I begin by breaking down effective test-taking strategies so students learn how to approach questions with confidence and clarity. From there, I focus on step-by-step exploration of underlying concepts, ensuring students understand not just what the correct answer is, but why it is correct. I believe memorization and pattern recognition alone are insufficient for long-term academic success, especially for students who want skills that transfer to future coursework and standardized exams.
Instead of simply giving answers, I emphasize guided questioning and active problem solving. By asking students targeted questions and walking them through the reasoning process, I help them arrive at solutions on their own. This approach builds critical thinking, strengthens conceptual understanding, and empowers students to tackle unfamiliar problems independently. My goal is not only to help students improve their scores, but also to equip them with the confidence and skills needed to succeed beyond a single test." less...
