"Hi there!
My name is Camryn, and I've been tutoring and teaching students for almost ten years. I'm a double major student at UC Merced in English and Philosophy, and I’m in my last year of college. Currently, I am studying these two to become an English teacher. I am currently CBEST certified with the potential and plan to be credentialed within the next two years, so I am certified to substitute teach in up to high school level subjects.
I started as a volunteer tutor for math and STEM and, in high school, became a paid tutor for Elementary to High School Math & English and Elementary to Middle School Sciences. I'm also a 3-year music teacher for violin, alto sax, and piano, with 15 years of experience in classical and contemporary music.
My teaching style is positive holistic learning, based on where the student is at to get them to where they want to be, taking into account their day-to-day struggles and lives. By getting a baseline for where they are and supporting them in learning concepts through their understanding better, we can help them become lifelong learners and learn the skill sets needed for education and beyond. In my almost ten years of experience, I've taught students ranging from 4 to 16 years old in one-on-one settings, small groups of 3 to 6 students, and large groups of 20 students.
When I teach, the first part of any lesson will always be a check-in to see how you are doing and feeling. In our first lesson, we’ll cover what you know and your confidence levels in it. Then, we’ll start with some coursework. For students and parents, we’ll have a lesson tracker sheet. Every time we meet up for tutoring, we’ll add what we worked on and what we need to do before the next session. We’ll set goals, do practice tests for subjects and pieces of music to test our learning, and push to better understand and grow interest in our learning.
I can't wait to meet you, and I'm excited to see where you will go and where I can help on your educational and personal learning journey!" less...
