"Salve, χαῖρε, and hello! My name is Lilia! I fell in love with ancient literature during my first semester in undergrad, studying Homer and Greek tragedy. At the time I was studying Economics, but I later realized that ancient languages were my greater passion. I went on to receive my MA in Classics at the University of Maryland, where I studied Latin and Greek literature and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Along the way, I helped teach Classics courses (I especially loved teaching intro mythology!) and did research of my own on Latin poetry. I am currently a graduate student at the University of Chicago, where I have worked with a whole host of Greek and Latin texts from ancient, to medieval, to renaissance. I have also gotten to work with rare old Latin manuscripts at the University of Chicago Library's Special Collections!

In my several years of teaching and tutoring (both in the classroom, and one-on-one), I have seen just how often Latin and Greek are over-complicated. Too many students are faced with lots of confusing grammar terms and rote drills, and hardly any easy to understand examples. But as someone who has studied ancient languages for over a decade, I know how rewarding it is to finally "get it" and be able to read old books exactly how they were written, from ancient epics to sacred texts. That's why I have a passion for cutting away the confusion and making Latin and Greek less intimidating. If they weren't dead languages already, modern schooling would kill them all over again—but I believe Latin and Greek are for everyone, and every student deserves a chance to see the past up close!

As a tutor I am happy to work with you to meet your language learning goals. I have experience with a wide variety of books and methods, including spoken/active Latin approaches and traditional grammar-translation methods, and can tailor sessions to best fit your need. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions—I promise to respond quickly!" less...
