"My name is David L. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in Children's Literature. I am currently a graduate student from University of Maryland University College working towards a Master's Degree in Teaching who specializes in teaching English Literature to middle and high school students. I work to make sure that I do my best in helping students understand the material they need help with, and I'm hoping that I can help you.
I have also spent time volunteering in my public library, which also helped in my love of books. I am also knowledgeable in various literary elements (e.g. setting, themes, symbols, motifs, etc.), and some of my favorite authors are J.K. Rowling, Edgar Allen Poe, George Orwell, and H.G. Wells. I've also had experience learning about fairy tales and the stories written by the likes of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian-Anderson. I've also been working as a volunteer tutor with the Latino Student Fund, an organization that focuses on helping Latino students with Reading, Vocabulary, and Math, since 2019.
Reading has always been a favorite hobby of mine, and as I got older, I learned to notice deeper meanings in various stories and books that I had read. This serves as my inspiration for wanting to teach: I want to help students discover these deeper themes, symbols and meanings and hopefully find a new appreciation for these stories like I did. It was because of this that I got my Bachelor's Degree in Children's Literature. Finally, I have an extensive knowledge of a wide variety of books and literary elements.
I hope to be a benefit to students, and I welcome any sort of resources or concerns that students or parents may provide. I am easy to get in contact with and promise to respond in a quick and orderly manner. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions you have or to schedule a session." less...
