"Hi! My name is Wes H. I'm a senior at the University of Florida studying Classics, soon to go on to law school. I've been studying Latin since 7th grade and ancient Greek since 9th grade; the whole time I've also read and written about Classical history. I have been successfully tutoring Latin for more than a year and a half and, the past school year, taught it at a local middle school. I will be teaching more classes there next year. I have tutored middle-school-, high-school-, and college-aged students, typically one-on-one.

When tutoring or teaching, I make a point of asking students questions as we translate, to ensure that they are understanding the "why" behind what they are doing. The value of Latin is not in being able to regurgitate endless verb endings, but in understanding how grammar works behind the scenes in a language very different from our own. The goal is to learn the "language of languages", the background grammar that can be applied easily to any other language on earth - not just the Romance languages - making language acquisition that much less difficult.
