"I believe I am well-qualified to tutor students and peers due to my academic background and leadership experience. I am currently a senior at Purdue University majoring in Computer Engineering, with a minor in Mathematics. My coursework has been heavily math-focused, and I have successfully completed all required courses through discrete mathematics. With only one year remaining before earning my bachelor’s degree, I have demonstrated strong commitment to my studies and a solid grasp of complex technical subjects.
While I have not held a formal teaching position, I have served as a peer mentor and orientation leader, where I was responsible for supporting groups of 17–20-year-old students pursuing degrees in computer science. In these roles, I led small tutoring sessions of three students at a time, offering help in basic mathematics and introductory coding. These sessions focused on answering questions and helping students work through academic challenges to build confidence and understanding.
As an orientation leader, I also led daily sessions with groups of 5–7 students, assisting them with course scheduling and introducing them to campus resources. This required adapting my communication to diverse needs and learning styles, which strengthened my ability to explain concepts clearly. Additionally, as a warehouse team lead managing 60 Spanish-speaking employees, I frequently translated instructions and took the initiative during breaks to teach basic English to small groups. These experiences have shaped my ability to tutor in both structured and informal settings." less...
