"Hello, I’m Dr. Amy R! I have an MA and a PhD in English and I have been teaching composition and literature at the college level for over ten years. In grad school, I maintained a 4.0 GPA. Since then, I’ve taught at several different universities, and I’m an expert at adapting my teaching style to the needs of my students. Most of my experience is with students ages 18-22, but I’m equipped to tutor anyone from 15-95! I care passionately about what I teach, and I believe that the skills you learn studying literature and practicing composition are some of the most valuable skills for our modern world. Still, I recognize that each of my students is coming from a different context, and I make sure to adapt my tutoring to your situation. I see it as my role to expand my students’ ability to think for themselves, and to approach a text or assignment with confidence and preparedness.
I can help you prepare the writing, reading, research, revision, and critical thinking skills you’ll need in college, and I can help you navigate the college courses and assignments themselves. I specialize in giving professional and personalized feedback on writing that’s at any stage of the composition process, from brainstorming through to the final polish. I have a great deal of experience working with research papers (whether at the high school, college, or grad school level), creative writing, theses and dissertations, literary analyses, academic articles, etc. I can help you increase your vocabulary, communicate clearly, develop research skills, and improve your own writing. I’m happy to facilitate your engagement with and comprehension of any book or reading that you find difficult.
I look forward to working with you!" less...
