"I am a PhD candidate at the University of Chicago, with a B.S. in Math & Physics from Yale and en-route M.S in Physics from UChicago. I am pursuing my College Teaching Certificate from UChicago, and I have TAed physics at UChicago. I have been studying mathematics and physics since 2016, and I have tutored 1-on-1 for several years, with strong reviews from my clients. Lastly, I have informally mentored dozens of peers and students, many who are now at top institutions, pursuing higher and tertiary education.
My journey with peer tutoring began in high school, as I peer tutored friends and students in the sciences and math, and I realized I loved teaching. I've always had a lifelong passion for what I do, and to be able to share that joy with other students is the most valuable part of what I do. It is so affirming to see the glint in students' eyes when a concept finally clicks for them. Guiding students along their educational journey and making difficult concepts painless and intuitive is my aim — just as my mentors and advisors did this for me, I aim to do this for my students.
I draw on my years of experience to put mathematical & physical concepts in new, intuitive ways for students using diagrams and analogies. Before I tutor each student, I try to understand their background and goals so that I can tailor my approach: a student interested in biology and a student interested in chemistry will both approach the subject of physics in different ways, and to make these concepts relevant to students' disciplines while also maintaining mathematical rigor is paramount. With each student, I make a unique learning plan with clear, quantifiable learning objectives so that students can look back and measure their progress. Through these methods, I have achieved success with students with diverse and different backgrounds." less...
