"Hi, I’m Henry! I’m a freshman studying mathematics at the University of Chicago and am passionate about helping students succeed in math. In high school, I scored a 780 on the SAT math section and completed mathematics courses through multivariable calculus and differential equations while maintaining a 4.2 GPA. From this coursework, I can tutor SAT math, pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus.

My background in tutoring includes teaching chess for 4 years to elementary school students in a group setting. I started by introducing the rules, and eventually, I helped them develop more complex concepts in opening, middlegame, and endgame strategy. On top of this, I've assisted middle school and high school-age students in various math topics in a more informal, one-on-one setting over those same 4 years. These topics included algebra 1/2, trigonometry, pre-calculus, and geometry. In general, my method is to propel students to a curious mindset and to develop problem-solving strategies. I try to adapt to the learning style that works best for students. For chess this might simply be playing through a guided game, but it could also turn out that explaining strategy in a way that an elementary school student can understand works better. As for math, breaking down the problem into smaller steps might work well for one student, but maybe a visual aid is better for another. In any case, I believe improvement in mathematics can be achieved through consistent practice, regardless of where you start, and I try to find how I can make it "click" for each student.

If you’re finding certain math concepts challenging or simply need some clarification and support, I’m happy to help! Please feel free to reach out with any questions and I will respond as soon as possible." less...
