"Hi! I'm Joshua.

I am a 4th-year chemical engineering student at the University of Florida. "Hi! I'm Joshua.

I am a 4th-year chemical engineering student at the University of Florida. I have been an avid fan of math since I was a little child, and I have a lot of experience with high school math courses as well as college-level courses. In addition, I have been tutoring students for over 4 years. My tutoring journey began when I was a senior in high school. I was taking classes at St. Petersburg College as a way to obtain my A.A. degree with my high school diploma. While I was enrolled at St. Petersburg College, I received As in Precalculus Algebra (MAC1140), Trigonometry (MAC1114), Calculus 2 (MAC2312), and Calculus 3 (MAC2313). Therefore, I sought out the opportunity to be hired as a student math tutor at their tutoring center even though I was technically still in high school. Lo and behold, I managed to snatch the job. When I graduated high school, I wanted to continue my tutoring journey at the University of Florida. I got hired as a freshman - which was not common there - and have been working at their math tutoring center ever since.

One of the most important insights I obtained throughout the years is that rapport with a student is essential. If the student does not feel comfortable working with you, they won't go for the help that they may need. No student wants to be shamed for their math struggles because, ultimately, there are so many people who struggle with math.

My teaching experience is very well-rounded. I have worked with students one-on-one through scheduled private appointments. I have also worked with students in a classroom setting where there may be 30+ students in one room, and I have to hop around to different students. Additionally, I have worked on exam review sessions for Calculus courses. This entails standing in front of a room full of 150+ students and going through a previous exam. More recently, these review sessions have been held online, so less students are in attendance as they can watch the recording later." less...
