"Hi, I'm Yi! In high school I received a 1600 score on the SAT Math and Critical Reading sections. I received my bachelors in Mathematics at Columbia in 2019, graduating cum laude. I then went on to earn a PhD in mathematics at the University of Pennsylvania in 2024, specializing in topology and number theory. During my nine years of higher education, I have served as a teaching assistant for college-level mathematics courses, including Calculus, Introduction to Proof-based Math, Discrete Mathematics, Abstract Algebra, Topology, Differential Geometry, Algebraic Topology. My duties included delivering recitations, holding office hours, and grading.
I also have extensive experience as a volunteer teacher for numerous educational programs at all levels. In particular, I have spent over 50 hours volunteering at local middle and high schools in the Philadelphia and New York areas, participating in after-school programs helping students with their math, including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Precalculus. I have also served as a co-instructor for Basic Mathematics and Elementary Algebra as a part of the Prison Teaching Initiative at Princeton. This volunteer work has spanned all types of teaching - one-on-one tutoring, classroom teaching, and small groupwork.
In general, I am happy to tutor anyone in the SAT and all levels of math, from elementary school math all the way to advanced college mathematics. I am very experienced in and passionate about teaching mathematics to people of all backgrounds. My teaching process emphasizes cultivating a deep conceptual understanding of mathematical concepts which is then strengthened by examining numerous illuminating, curated examples. I also like to encourage active student participation - mathematics must be done in order to be learned. I am here to help students achieve their mathematical goals!" less...
