"Hi! My name is Sean P, I'm a 20-year-old from Arvada, Colorado, and I'm a junior at CU Boulder studying applied mathematics! I started playing chess just under 4 years ago during the pandemic, beginning as a 400 rated rapid player. I quickly fell in love with the game, and have worked hard through self-study in my own time to increase my rating in different time controls. Since then, I've reached ratings of over 2400 in Rapid (10 minute), Blitz (3 minute) and Bullet (1 minute) on chess.com, as well as 2400 Rapid and Blitz, and 2500 Bullet on lichess.org. I've learned so much along the way. I also have a USCF over-the-board rating of 2020, which I expect to continue rising as I play in more official tournaments.
Alongside chess and math, I also have a passion for teaching, and have 2 years of experience teaching both math and computer science to children through summer camps. I love watching a concept "click" when a student finally understands a problem, and I believe that I am adaptable to each student and can teach an idea in whatever way is easiest for the student to grasp. I now have over 300 hours tutoring chess on Wyzant, and I love watching my students improve.
As your coach, I will start by playing you to understand your playing style, strengths and weaknesses. We will work together to build an opening repertoire that uses your strengths and suits your style, and through practice, we will work to eliminate your weaknesses so that you become a better overall player! I will also place an emphasis on particular topics of importance based on your rating to help you climb the ladder quicker, and give you an idea of what you can work on during your own time if you are truly dedicated to improvement!
All ages and skill levels welcome, I love to teach kids as well as adult learners!" less...
