"I have been a mathematics and computer science teacher for the past 25 years, spending all of those years in a public high school in Connecticut. During that time, I have taught many math and computer science courses including algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, precalculus, introduction to computer science (Python), and Advanced Placement Computer Science A ( Java). I positively impacted student learning and development outside of the classroom through coaching, club advising, and involvement with many school/district committees. I teach through a variety of techniques, but a core part of any lesson involves students asking and answering questions.
My journey to teaching was unusual; I have an undergraduate degree in Biology (SUNY at Binghamton), and my graduate degree is an M.B.A. in Management Information Systems (SUNY Albany). I worked for 15 years in several information systems jobs before going back to school to become certified in mathematics for grades 7-12. My goal was to teach computer science, but I found that I also really enjoyed teaching mathematics, and have taught a combination of math/computer science courses throughout my career. I have extensive experience working 1-on-1 with students both via after-school help and through tutoring.
I have been recognized by my students, peers and administrators through several awards including numerous Helping Hand Awards, a Youth and Family Services Community Asset Award (2024), and the district Teacher of the Year (2025).
In addition to my certification in mathematics, I hold a computer science endorsement. I enjoy programming, playing guitar, playing and coaching tennis, volunteering on our youth and family services board and spending time with my wife and our grown family." less...
