"Hello! My name is Melissa, and I’m a certified math educator with a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Mathematics and a Master of Science in Mathematics. Over the past several years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching and tutoring a wide range of math courses, from Pre-Algebra through Calculus II and Statistics. My teaching experience includes six years at Watkinson School, where I taught Precalculus, Calculus I & II, and Statistics, as well as time at the Russian School of Mathematics, where I worked with students in Pre-Algebra, Geometry III, and Algebra II. I also tutored throughout my college years at Southern New Hampshire University, helping peers strengthen their understanding of topics such as Calculus and Statistics. In addition to classroom teaching, I’ve privately tutored students since I was 18, working with learners from high schools and universities such as Cornell, UConn, Howard, Brooklyn College, and CCSU.
As a professionally certified math teacher for grades 4–12, I believe that effective tutoring is built on patience, clear communication, and personalization. Every student learns differently, so I tailor each session to the individual’s goals, strengths, and learning style. Whether preparing for the SAT or ACT, mastering Algebra, or tackling advanced Calculus, I create custom worksheets and problem sets to reinforce key concepts and build confidence. I tutor virtually and strive to make math engaging, approachable, and rewarding for every student. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades but also to help them develop lasting problem-solving skills and a genuine appreciation for mathematics." less...
