"Hello, my name is Matthew. I am a dedicated history teacher with a B.A. in History from the University of Maryland Global Campus (2023) and over ten years of tutoring experience in History and Math. I also studied at Montgomery College (2018) and Hampton University (2021), further strengthening my background in Historical Analysis and Educational Strategies. My goal is to help students think critically, write effectively, and appreciate the past. I customize sessions to meet individual needs and make history accessible and empowering.

Since 2015, I’ve worked in various educational settings, beginning with tutoring peers through The George B. Thomas Saturday School Program, where I supported AP students in U.S. History, African American History, and Math. I use a “Triple-R” method—Read, Review, Reiterate—tailored to different learning styles and long-term retention. In 2015, I also volunteered at the College Park Aviation Museum, where I led history-themed programs for families. In college, I supported peers through tutoring and study groups and assisted elementary teachers in grades 3–5.

Currently, I teach Middle and High School History (Grades 6–12), applying inquiry-based learning and the Triple-R method to build writing and critical thinking skills. My experience encompasses one-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, and full-classroom teaching. I’ve earned Dean’s List honors at Hampton University (2020–2021) and UMGC (2021–2023), and I am a member of the UMGC History Student Society and Alpha Sigma Lambda. I received the John R. Syme Scholarship (2022) and placed second in the national Legacy Project essay contest (2015).

My goal is to help students build lasting skills. I bring patience, structure, and encouragement to every session—promoting curiosity, confidence, and academic growth.
