"Hello! My name is Emma, and I’m a full-time Wildlife Biologist with a passion for helping students succeed in science, reading, and writing. I graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Aquatic Sciences: Marine & Freshwater Biology, along with minors in Wildlife Science and Environmental Law and Policy. My academic background provides a strong foundation in biology, ecology, environmental science, and scientific reading and writing.
I have experience teaching and tutoring students across a wide range of ages and learning environments. At Purdue, I served as a Teaching Assistant for two upper-level courses—Ecotoxicology and Aquatic Sampling Techniques—where I evaluated assignments, guided project teams, led one-on-one support sessions, and taught hands-on skills such as necropsies, internal health assessments, and anatomical identification. These experiences strengthened my ability to explain complex topics clearly and step by step.
Outside the classroom, I worked as a Naturalist at a National Wildlife Refuge, leading educational programs for children, families, tourists, and private groups. I taught coastal ecology, wildlife identification, conservation biology, and human-wildlife coexistence, adapting lessons to different learning styles and backgrounds. I also helped learners connect classroom concepts to real-world environmental issues, including post-hurricane ecological changes.
My teaching journey began in high school as a cadet teacher for 2nd grade (all subjects) and 7th grade English, shaping my patient, encouraging approach. As a tutor, I focus on identifying gaps in understanding, building confidence, and helping students develop long-term comprehension rather than memorization. Whether supporting college coursework, ACT/SAT prep, or foundational skills, I tailor each session to the student’s needs.
If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, supportive tutor with real-world science experience, I’d be excited to work with you!" less...
