"Hello! I'm Heather, and I have a BA in English, an MA in English with an emphasis in creative writing, and an MFA in fiction. Somewhere along my educational path, my love of reading and the written word led me to become a writer. My greatest joy is sharing this with my students. I've worked with students across a broad spectrum of writing needs, from creative writing drafting and editing in fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction to academic projects. My background includes teaching and tutoring in creative writing and composition, where I've helped students develop a confident voice and craft a compelling narrative, whether academic or creative.
As a college instructor, I've assisted countless students in developing strong essays that meet the expectations of university-level writing. From personal narratives to summary, single-text analysis, synthesis, and research assignments, I focus on teaching students to read critically, organize their thoughts, structure a coherent essay, and polish grammar. Writing is a process, and I guide my students to embrace each stage, from prewriting to revision. In the age of AI, what we have to offer the world is our voices, our stories, and our deep, subconscious minds - my aim is to help my students understand and access this.
A key aspect of my expertise is in guiding students to create a compelling college application essay, helping to uncover and shape their stories in a way that reflects not only academic achievement and goals, but their unique personality, values, and voice, ensuring that each essay is authentically and strategically crafted.
My goal is to empower students as they develop their writing, equipping them with the tools, techniques, and confidence to succeed in all areas of writing." less...
