"Hi, I’m Prisha, and I love teaching, writing, and teaching people how to write! I started tutoring almost a decade ago and found so much joy in it that I ended up pursuing it professionally. I believe that good teaching is about listening deeply to your students and tailoring lessons to their particular needs, learning styles, and experience levels. My students have told me that my greatest strengths as a teacher are patience, clarity, responsiveness, adaptability, and compassion.
I graduated from Yale University’s English, Creative Writing, and Education Studies programs, where I received the John Hubbard Curtis Prize for an Outstanding Writing Portfolio. I’m also an instructor at The Writers Circle of NJ and a professional writer, with over 25 published short stories and over a decade of workshop experience. When I applied to college, my essays got me accepted into Harvard, Yale, Princeton, UPenn, JHU, Vanderbilt, WashU, Emory, UVA, and NYU. Since then, I’ve been helping other people get into their dream schools, too.
I specialize in academic writing for grades 6-12, creative writing, and college essay writing. I’ve worked with a wide range of ages, though most of my experience is with middle and high schoolers.
We’ll begin with deep, personalized feedback on your previous work, academic or creative, to help you lean into your writing strengths and identify your weaknesses. From there, we’ll work together to build up your foundational skills, like clarity, brevity, paragraph structure, evidence selection, and rhetorical analysis (for academic writing); character, dialogue, imagery, worldbuilding, plot, and pacing (for creative writing); or a combination of the two (for college essay writing). I’ve helped my students workshop and revise their creative pieces, improve their reading and writing grades in school, build strong writing habits, experiment with genres and styles, and publish their original work.
I can’t wait to start working together! :)" less...
