Questions?

Math, English in Spokane, WA

Hello Linda, I have a daughter in 4th grade and she struggles a bit with math and some with English. It seems sometimes it may be more a matter of understanding the directions in the homework. Sometimes once it is explained to her in different terms it clicks, however, she doesn't always want 'mom' helping her. She tends to avoid asking for help at school because there are many students and not enough time and she also feels embarrassed. She wants to be able to work independently, but getting to that point is difficult because when she doesn't understand the work she gets discouraged, stops working, doodles and gets behind. I was thinking that maybe a tutor would help her because she does well one on one (as I have helped her much in the past) but I think she may do well with a teacher/mentor other than mom as she is getting to this age of not wanting to be under my wing so much or have mom instructing her on yet another task.
