math in Woodbridge, VA

Hi, I need a math tutor for my son, Desmond, who is in 6th grade. He is averaging an F, right now. He seems to understand concepts when we work one-on-one with him to help him with his homework (after he's already tried it), but he cannot seem to remember how to apply what he's learned in class to the homework or tests by himself. As part of the required work, he is also assigned IXL work. IXL is an online thing that the kids have to log into and complete. Some are required and some are extra credit. An additional issue that would probably save him from an F would be some of the homework he does, but then doesn't turn in. Of course, this is his responsibility, but overall he just isn't grasping what he needs to. Pretty much all of his other grades are great. My husband and I were thinking of maybe one or two nights per week - depending on cost and what the tutor feels he would most benefit from. We live fairly close to you, as we're in River Oaks (22191) across the street-ish from the CVS and Potomac High School. We're right around the corner from River Oaks Elementary.
